As a conservationist, I have the zeal of the converted. As a boy I was never in one place for more than a few years and, consequently, developed what was almost a disdain for attachments to place, natural or manmade. But as a journalist I found myself drawn to stories that took place in the woods or on the water and was surprised to find myself advocating for the rights of nature, and understanding that biodiversity is the very definition of inclusivity.
